The Giants and their fans stepped up on the big stage last night, and successfully averted disaster. In desperate need of a win to stem the tide of a potential Mets’ sweep, Matt Cain turned in a marvelous pitching performance in route to a 2-0 San Francisco win. ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball was in town on a gorgeous evening for baseball. It was clear that Giant fans were into this one from the getgo and the men in the cream colored uni’s did not disappoint.
Out in Detroit on Sunday, the A’s did just that, disappoint. The Tigers completed an 11-7 dismantling of the Oakland pitching staff and put the A’s in a precarious position: knocking on the door of the Major League Baseball cellar with a dubious record of 13-21.
Oakland begins a four game set in Tampa tonight, facing last year’s AL champion. The Giants next play on Tuesday, down in San Diego. Barry Zito will be on the hill tomorrow. Currently, he is catching waves at a beach in La Jolla.
